Interview with Artist & Singer/songwriter Marianne Nowottny

I was honored to get a chance to speak to the multi-talented Marianne Nowottny. Marianne debuted at the Knitting Factory at 16 and has performed with the likes of Genesis P-Orridge, Mark Dagley, poet Barry Schwabsky and others. Her work is all over the place. Sweetly dark poppy numbers, ethereal breezy electro ballads, shades of punk and goth, industrial, witchhouse, vaporwave like Zappa, Bowie or Beck, Marianne Nowottny is off the map and out of this world. In discussing her work and influences we cover a lot of ground and shoot off on tangents as diverse as the Slavic pantheon of deities, Ukrainian Barbie, Theosophy’s Madame Blavatsky, the idea of “Manufactured pop sensations” and more.
